We’re searching for a creative, organised, and energetic Sous Chef to help lead our kitchen at The Philharmonic. Main Responsibilities – Sous Chef Job Duties & Leadership

  • Lead kitchen shifts and inspire your team, setting the standard for efficiency, quality, and positive teamwork.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to design and develop innovative dishes, specials, and menus that excite Cardiff’s food scene.
  • Oversee food preparation, plating, and presentation – delivering on consistency, flavour, and visual wow-factor every time.
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene, health, and safety standards, ensuring full compliance at every stage.
  • Train, mentor, and support junior chefs – develop talent, encourage creativity, and ensure high morale in the kitchen.
  • Manage inventory, order supplies, and control stock efficiently to minimise waste and maximise value.
  • Step up seamlessly to lead the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence, ensuring smooth, successful service.
  • Jump in to help the wider venue team during busy periods and key events – we’re all in it together.

Key Skills & Experience – What Makes a Great Discovery Sous Chef?

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef de Partie, or equivalent in a busy, quality-focused kitchen.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and kitchen operations – food hygiene qualifications a big plus.
  • Innovative, passionate about discovery, and excited to influence our menus with your ideas.
  • Confident leadership style with outstanding communication, coaching, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to thrive when it’s busy – calm, solutions-focused, and energised by a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to training, and supporting the growth of every team member.

Working Hours, Salary & Benefits – Cardiff Sous Chef Vacancies

  • £14.00 per hour starting rate – paid fortnightly.
