Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for their facilities in Oxford, Oxfordshire, UK . This role is essential for ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of complex mechanical systems within a demanding industrial environment. You will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of machinery, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and implementing preventative maintenance strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial mechanical engineering, excellent diagnostic skills, and the ability to lead by example.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine and complex mechanical maintenance on a wide range of industrial machinery and equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical faults, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption to operations. Develop, implement, and refine preventative maintenance schedules to enhance equipment reliability and reduce unexpected failures. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to accurately perform maintenance and repairs. Conduct root cause analysis for recurring mechanical failures and implement corrective actions. Oversee and participate in the installation and commissioning of new mechanical equipment. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations and company policies. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work carried out. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior maintenance technicians. Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings related to mechanical maintenance. Collaborate with production and engineering teams to ensure maintenance activities align with operational needs. Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical components.
Qualifications:
Apprenticeship or formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mechanical maintenance role within an industrial setting (manufacturing, processing, etc.). Proven expertise in troubleshooting and repairing various types of mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and P&IDs. Strong understanding of predictive and preventative maintenance techniques. Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation. Excellent problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to diagnostics. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) is desirable. Willingness to participate in an on-call rota if required.
