<strong>Overview<br><br></strong>The (Shift) Manager directs the Substation Operations and Maintenance Supervisors and is also responsible for directing the Human and Material resources of the department in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner in response to normal and emergency conditions associated with the operation and maintenance of all Substation Operations Equipment and Systems.<br><br><strong>Responsibilities<br><br></strong><strong>Core Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Direct and oversee Substation Operations and Maintenance Supervisors to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations.</li><li>Monitor substation equipment status and coordinate with System Operations to develop contingency plans and restore outage equipment.</li><li>Collaborate with Area Managers, Planners, and Transmission Operations to mobilize resources for planned and emergency outages.</li><li>Manage and update outage schedules for major equipment maintenance and construction activities.</li><li>Serve as the Operating Authority for the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System, issuing valving orders and overseeing system operations and testing.</li><li>Respond to emergencies, including feeder contingencies and infrastructure failures, ensuring timely notifications and incident reporting.</li><li>Supervise and ensure readiness of support systems such as communication, relay protection, and alarm systems.</li><li>Coordinate with internal departments and external utilities on dielectric system issues and transmission feeder integrity.</li><li>Lead emergency preparedness efforts, including annual operations drills and training for Area Management.</li><li>Oversee procurement and coordination of contractor services for emergency support and material needs.</li><li>Monitor and analyze surveillance data from dielectric systems, initiating corrective actions as needed.</li><li>Act as Control Center Manager when required and support the training and performance evaluation of Managers-in-Training.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><strong>Required Education/Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>Bachelor's Degree and 5 years' or more work experience in operations, maintenance or construction of Transmission and Distribution System Equipment and a strong working knowledge of the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System or equivalent experience. or</li><li>Associate's Degree and 6 years' or more work experience in operations, maintenance or construction of Transmission and Distribution System Equipment and a strong working knowledge of the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System or equivalent experience. or</li><li>High School Diploma/GED and 7 years' or more work experience in operations, maintenance or construction of Transmission and Distribution System Equipment and a strong working knowledge of the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System or equivalent experience.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Preferred Education/Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred. and 3 or more years' experience as a shift supervisor preferred<br><br></li></ul><strong>Relevant Work Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>5-7 years work experience in operations, maintenance or construction of Transmission and Distribution System Equipment and a strong working knowledge of the High-Pressure Dielectric Fluid System or equivalent experience. Required</li><li>Familiarity/knowledge of Transmission and Distribution electrical systems, i.e. - transformers, high voltage circuit breakers, control systems and basic relay protection is required. Candidates must possess a clear understanding of the High Pressure Dielectric Fluid System. Required</li><li>Must be competent in the use of Excel, Word and other Windows based programs and be able to write detailed reports. Required</li><li>Proven leadership and management skills to motivate colleagues and subordinates to effectively respond to Substation system needs. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Required</li><li>Knowledge of Safety and Environmental procedures and practices needed to meet Company and Regulatory Requirements.
